Joseph Otsiman who has been nominated at the 2016 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) has said that although he was disappointed for not receiving a nomination at the 2015 Ghana Movie Awards, he was motivated to do more as an actor.
Joseph has been nominated for Best Actor in Supporting Role for the role he played in The Cursed Ones.
He told KMJ on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz that he was highly elated when news of his nomination was confirmed.
“It was crazy. I expected the nomination at the Ghana Movie Awards which didn’t happen so I thought it wouldn’t be possible at the AMAAs… I can’t describe it. It was crazy,” he said when asked how he felt when he heard the news.
Asked if the recognition by AMAA makes him disappointed in Ghana Movie Awards for not nominating him, Joseph replied, “Not at all. I don’t know what the Ghana Movie Awards and AMAA considered before nominating. Maybe it’s not the same criteria. Though I was disappointed I couldn’t get the Ghana Movie Awards, I was okay. It just motivated me to work harder.”
According to the nominee, he started acting in High School. The Cursed Ones, he said, is his first film. Joseph however added that before the movie, he had been featuring in theater productions.
The Cursed Ones has received thirteen nominations at this year’s African Movie Academy Awards.
It was nominated in Achievement in Make-up, Achievement in Costume Design, Achievement in Production Design, Achievement in Soundtrack, Achievement in Sound, Achievement in Cinematography, Achievement in Editing, Achievement in Screenplay and Best Film.
