British actor Idris Elba has tested positive for COVID-19.
The 47-year-old man of Sierra Leonean and Ghanaian descent said on Monday that he received his test results Monday showing he has the virus.
In a video he posted on Twitter, Elba said he feels “OK” and is currently showing no symptoms.
He also added that he had been isolated since finding out last Friday that he had been exposed to someone who tested positive.
He encouraged people watching his video to practice social distancing and be diligent about handwashing, emphasizing the point that there are asymptomatic people are out there like himself.
“Stay home people and be pragmatic,” he wrote.
“Look we live in a divided world right now…but now is a time for solidarity. Now is a time for thinking about each other. There are so many people whose lives have been affected.”
Elba’s wife, Sabrina Dhowre, appeared beside him in his video. She has not been tested but was “doing OK.”
Elba now joins the list of top stars tested positive to coronavirus, which includes Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson.
