Zylofon Media says it expects nothing from aged Ghanaian musician, Jewel Ackah, after donating $10,000 to him, except he should take care of himself with it.
“We see this as a gesture to support the creative arts industry. We don’t need anything from Jewel Ackah. It is our own way to support, and there are no strings attached,” Samuel Baah, head of communications at Zyfolon Media, told NEWS-ONE on Monday.
The CEO of Zylofon Media, Nana Appiah Mensah, went to the aid of the legendary musician after listening to his sad story in an interview he granted to Accra-based radio station, Peace FM, on Saturday.
According to Jewel Ackah, he has been suffering and was neglected by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party after he composed NDC’s popular anthem titled ‘Arise Arise’.
Moved by the story of the legendary highlife artiste, Nana Appiah Mensah ordered that $10,000 be given to him on Saturday. The kind gesture has since been receiving applauds from well-meaning Ghanaians.
Asked if Zylofon has interest in setting up a support system for aged entertainers which would benefit both Zylofon and the entertainers, Samuel Baah said, “We have not sat as a team to consider that but I know Obour and his team at MUSIGA have funds that care for aged musicians.”
Meanwhile, Jewel Ackah has been thankful to God and Nana Appiah Mensah for his kindness.
According to peacefmonline.com, the highlife legend revealed that he is going to use the money on medication and for healthcare needs.
Jewel Ackah had earlier expressed gross disappointment in the NDC party for neglecting him after he fell sick.
He is known for composing the popular NDC anthem titled ‘Arise Arise’ in the year 2008. The highlife gem is one of the many musicians who popularised highlife music in the 1980s and 1990s.
His sweet voice and enticing Fante lyrics made him an exceptional artiste. But his career took a nosedive after composing the song for the opposition NDC.
