Time has gone and ages past but the old wound still lingers in the heart of son of Late Afro-Beat singer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Femi Kuti, as he recalls how his father’s Kalakuta Republic was burnt down during the Military regime.
According to Femi, “today February 18th makes it 42years since the burning of my father's house Kalakuta, still fresh in my mind. Never to be forgotten. Injustice.”
He further explained that his father had to remove the name “Republic” because the government banned him from using the title and had to use “Kalakuta.”
Femi stressed to fans who feel he is copying or wants to be like his father that though he loves his father but he as a son is only doing his own thing and not trying to fit into his shoes.
“My purpose in life isn't to be or copy my father but to be MYSELF. I love my father & I'm not in competition with him. I've got mine to fill/wear. It's never been my intention to be my father but to be myself and find fulfillment.”
