OKAY 101.7 FM, a new radio station in the capital which started its test transmission a couple of weeks ago, has caught the attention of a large number of radio listeners in Accra and beyond.
The station, Beat Waves gathered, is working tirelessly behind closed doors to change the current trend of radio broadcasting in the country through well-designed programmes, good music and a motivated workforce. Okay FM’s presence on the airwaves is causing a lot of panic among certain radio stations because of its style of operation and the kind of music it airs.
Based on Okay FM’s commitment to change the trend of radio broadcasting in the country, a number of top radio personalities have defected to the station and have started negotiations with the station’s management.Reports available also indicate that some existing radio stations have also started signing contracts with their presenters to avoid being poached by Okay FM.
Beat Waves can reveal that the station’s programmes would range from news, music, entertainment, sports, politics and social issues and apart from providing 24 hour service to its listeners, the station also hopes to become a force to reckon with in the broadcasting industry. Beat waves learnt that okay FM was established to give people in Accra and its environs variety as most radio stations in the city have been doing almost the same thing.
The station has a modern state- of-the -art studio, backed by seasoned radio presenters and disk jockeys. The goal of the station is to make listeners recognize it as a viable and sustainable music-oriented station in Ghana today. A source close to the station hinted that Okay FM has a number of educative programmes to be aired soon. “We think there is room for business and those who know how well to do it will do well. It will be difficult, we know, but we have taken it as a challenge and we promise to give our listeners the best radio experience,” the source said.
