Okyeame Kwame has once again proven why he is revered as Ghana’s most ‘’versatile’’ musician when he put up an outstanding performance to entertain the audience at the launch of the Preparation of a Long Term National Development Plan for Ghana at the Conference Centre, Accra.
The programme which was organized by the National Development Planning Committee saw in attendance the President, John Dramani Mahama, Former Presidents, John Agyeikum Kuffour and Jerry John Rawlings, past and present Ministers, Chiefs and other respected state men and women.
Okyeame Kwame appeared on stage cladded in an all-white African apparel with a chain of Kente amidst contemporary choreographers who acted as Okyeame performed his classic song ‘’Sika’’.
The characters included Pastors, Politicians, Teachers, Family members, Students and Security personnel as they danced to depict the struggle that people go through to achieve development.
Speaking to a freelance blogger, Charles Akrofi, Mr. Akunu Dake, Chief Executive Officer of Heritage Development and Programme Facilitator said Okyeame Kwame was preferred for this programme because he is young and progressive and his style of music is in tune with the larger objective of the programme.
"We needed to speak the artistic statement and we couldn’t have thought of anyone else than Okyeame Kwame’’ he was quoted as saying.
As to how appropriate his performance was to the programme’s objective, he said "his performance depicted issues related to unity and that was the objective of the programme. The choreographers were also in tune with what was going on and acted it so well’’.
At the end of the performance was a crescendo which saw all characters on stage come together as Okyeame Kwame discussed development, stressing on the need to be united as Ghanaians to develop the country.
It was indeed an expression of the kind of decency and versatility that Ghana needs as Okyeame Kwame expressed the value for time.
