Hiplife musician, Quame Nsiah Apau, also known as Okyeame Quame formerly of Akyeame fame has returned from Italy with a smile.
Quame may not have attracted attention to win an award here in Ghana, but Ghanaians resident in Italy have seen the talent in him and have accorded him an honour during the Ghana-Italy Music Awards held in Vicenza, Italy recently.
He told Showbiz that he received two awards as Best Song Writer with the song, Mate Ahwe Wo Do Mu and Best Collaborator with Daasebre Dwamena for the same song.
What may have probably attracted the attention of the organisers of the awards were some of the wise and proverbial sayings in the lyrics of the “Rap Doctor”, as Quame describes himself.
He was not the only one who was accorded that honour, Batman, Obour and Mzbel were also honoured for their good works in the past year.
Quame said Batman received three awards as New Artiste of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year and Linda Song of the Year while Obuor and Mzbel received an award each. Obuor for his Konkontibaa song and Mzbel as Female Hiplife Artist of the Year.
Obuor and Mzbel were not in Italy to receive their awards but Okyeame Quame and Batman were there to receive theirs and performed to the admiration of the crowd.
They also had an opportunity to perform to the delight of Ghanaian audience in The Netherlands. Okyeame Quame said that the organisers of the Ghana-Italy Music Awards, really did their homework well and gave the awards to deserving artistes.
He hinted that he is presently working on an album which he has named, My Poetry. He said again that he is currently assisting his younger brothers, Kunta Kinte and Stone (Bradez) to come out with their debut, which they have named Chapter One.
Okyeame Quame, after his Mate Ahwe Wo Do Mu album last year, has done a couple of collaborations with Oheneba Kissi, George Jahraa and Tinny, which are enjoying good airplay. He said that he has done a recent one with Obrafuor, which would soon hit the airwaves.
Okyeame Quame started his music career as part of Akyeame, a collaboration he successfully handled with his pal, Okyeame Quophi to come out with hit songs that rocked the Ghanaian hiplife music scene until the duo decided to go their separate ways last year.
