Accra, March 10 GNA - The Okyenhene "Mmofra Afahye 2005" (a children's festival) was on Thursday launched in Accra, with the objective of helping children in the Abuakwa traditional area realise their God-given talents.
The festival, which was initiated last year as part of the fifth anniversary celebrations of Okyenhene enstoolment's is to create opportunities for schools in the area.
Nana Kesseboa Serwaa, Adonkwantahemaa of the Abuakwa Traditional area, who launched the programme on behalf of the Okyenhene, said the event would also create the chance for the children to interact with the King.
She said the schedule of events for the five divisions of Akyem Abuakwa, namely Adonten, Nifa, Benkum, Oseawuo and Gyase would assist in picking schools for the main event on October 8, at Kyebi.
She said five schools from each of the divisions would be selected by Nananom to compete for awards in various disciplines. She said the students would participate in poetry, drumming and dancing, role-plays as well as various outdoor activities both competitive and non-competitive.
Nana Kesseboa also announced that schools from other traditional areas such as Akwapim, Kaleo, Paga, Sefwi Wiawso, and Cape coast as well as the School of the Blind have been invited to participate in the events.
She said the children would be encouraged to hold exhibitions of arts and crafts as a means of showing their talents to the invited dignitaries.
She urged corporate organizations involved in children's programme to provide sponsorship for the festival to ensure its success. 10- 03- 05
