One week after Ebony’s death: The story so far

Ghanaians woke up to the news of the death of fast-rising dancehall Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng, popularly known as Ebony Reigns at Nyamebekyere near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South District of the Ashanti Region a week ago

Various narratives have been given as to what actually caused the accident leading to her untimely death.

Police

On 08/02/2018, at about 23:45 hours, suspect driver Chartey Oko Pinehad, aged 29, was driving Jeep No. AS497-16 from Sunyani to Accra with three occupants on board, whilst suspect driver Mohammed Abubakar aged 48 years, was also driving KIA Grad Bird [VIP] bus with registration No. GT 3232-17 from Accra to Sunyani with a set of passengers on board.

On reaching a section of the road between Nyamebekyere and Nsuta, there was a heap of sand in the lane of the Jeep which was being used for the road maintenance, and the driver in trying to avoid running into the sand, swerved onto the opposite lane and grazed the nearside portion of the bus and plunged into the railings at the edge of the road, killing the three other occupants identified as Francisca Nkansah Kuri aged 27 years, Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng [Ebony], and Lance Corporal Vondee Francis Atsu, aged 29 years.

Bullet

Her manager, Bullet has stated that on the first day he met Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng, whom he named Ebony after signing her, she had told him, fearfully, about a prophecy she received when she was 17, and meeting him (Bullet of Ruff and Smooth), which was part of the prophesy she received, made her fearful.

Speaking to Abeiku Santana on Okay FM this evening, Bullet revealed Ebony confided in him that a Prophetess she encountered at a prayer meeting (at Mamfe where she attended Secondary School before she dropped out) told her “My daughter, you will become a very big star, but you will die at your peak”, the prophetess told Ebony in Twi.

The Prophetess then asked 17-year-old Ebony whether she knew Ruff and Smooth, the ‘swagger’ musicians, to which Ebony responded in the affirmative, adding that she even liked their songs. The prophetess then told her one of the two musicians will meet her, and through him her life will change. So when Ebony met a friend who told her he could link her up to a showbiz guru who could help her, Ebony wasn’t waiting to see who it was- it turned out to be him Bullet of Ruff and Smooth fame, and who without any reservations proceeded to simply make her big.

Father

Whereas father and biggest fan of Ebony Reigns, Nana Opoku Kwarteng claims he was only informed about her trip to Sunyani at about 10 Pm on Thursday night, an account from the police reveal she was involved in the ghastly accident one and half hours later.

Nana Opoku Kwarteng in an interview of Joy Fm said:” She left home on Thursday saying she was going to see her mum. The Mum just returned from the United Kingdom and she said she was going to see her. I asked if she was driving herself because it was late. She told me she was going with her driver, her bodyguard who was a soldier and a friend. It was around 10 Pm”, he revealed.

Zylofon Boss

Boss of Zylofon Media, Nana Appiah Mensah has said Ebony pleaded with him to pay her Manager off in order to ‘free’ her from his Shackles.

According to him, he had met up with Ebony and had agreed on terms of contract with Ebony and was on the verge of signing her until her demise.

Nana Appiah Mensah who disclosed this on Twitter while eulogizing the artiste said “We had a fruitful meeting and reached an Agreement just last Tuesday. “Please help me pay him for my bailout. I want to be free”. I hope you’re free now & finds absolute peace in the bosom of the almighty God. Let’s pay CRITICAL ATTENTION to our female artists”, the tweet from the big time Showbiz mogul said.
