Organise ‘Ghana Meets Naija’ gospel edition – John Winner to organisers

Musician, John Winner has appealed to organisers of the annual Ghana Meets Naija to pay attention to the gospel sector by organizing an edition for gospel artistes.

Speaking to Abrantepa on Radio Univers’ Brunch2Lunch, Tuesday, John Winner mentioned that gospel musicians like secular acts, are able to give patrons value for money and needed to be supported to be able to do more.

Over the years, the event ‘has been known as the platform for the biggest artistes in both Ghana and Nigeria to share one stage and thrill music lovers. It has always seen massive patronage because of the list of top African acts it parades.

Delving into arguments that gospel music should be seen as business and not just a ministry, John Winner indicated that although the main aim of a gospel musician should be winning souls, the business aspect cannot be overlooked.

“There is the business aspect although it’s a ministry. Jesus had Judas around him because he was His treasurer; he needed some kind of funding to push his ministry. When you put me on a program and I see a lot of sponsors on, then definitely, you have to pay me,” he said but was quick to add that “when it comes to church settings, I just make them take care of my band.”
