Hiplife duo Akatakyie has openly declared that one of their biggest challenges as musicians was that their songs were playing all over but their image was left behind.

Akatakyie is made up of two brothers, Prince Kwabena Budu Asumaning (Kobby Culture) and Ebenezer Kwasi Okyere Asumaning (King Pharoah). The duo was a household name in the early days of hiplife music in Ghana.

They have to their credit lots of hit songs including Odo Esisi Me, Ghana Mbaa, Odo Esikyire, Yedi Aba, Agoo, Sinsima and Sie Sie Obaa No featuring Okyeame Kwame.

Speaking to Accra-based Onua 95.1 FM on entertainment talk show Anigye Mmre, the two were emphatic to the host Christian Agyei Frimpong that most executive music producers are interested in the sale of the album, not the welfare and the image of the musician.

“They put lots of money in the promotion of the song, the song becomes a hit all over, what happens to the musician who sang the song?” they queried.

“The musician may be struggling for what he/she will eat and picking trotro or public transport all around.

“In our situation, our producer never bought a vehicle or an apartment for us, we bought our own cars, our music was rather doing very well, but our image as Akatakyie was left behind. Our welfare was not well taken care of.”
