Accra, Oct. 26, GNA - The Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) on Tuesday launched a TV programme that provides information to empower the youth to make positive choices regarding their sexuality. The programme codenamed "Choices" will showcase a series of drama and other entertainment packages to promote dynamic and innovative behavioural change.
Choices will examine reproductive health issues and provide information that will challenge social norms, attitudes and practices that hinder young people to make healthy and informed choices. Dr. Frances Owusu Daaku, President of the PPAG who launched the programme said it was the brainchild of the "Young and Wise" project of the Association.
Young and Wise operates a telephone help line and counselling facility -"BE WISE: LETS TALK" that encourages young people to talk anonymously and confidently about sexuality issues with trained professionals.
Dr. Owusu Daaku said through an extensive peer education programme, about 130 young people had been trained as the peer educators who articulate their knowledge through discussions and teaching sessions on adolescent sexuality and reproductive health.
Mrs Matilda Owusu Ansah of the PPAG, said: the Young and Wise Project come in handy to address the sexuality concerns of the youth and to help halt the spread of HIV/AIDS.
