Patty’s review on Saturday Nite Live

It was a warm Saturday night, there was live music, great acts, free cocktails and the event lived up to expectation. Done!

Yes, the show started about an hour and a half late but I guess Ghanaians are going to live through late starts for a long while because the debate of who is to blame has been going on for years and the culprit is yet to be found.

It promised to be a night of good music, fashion, comedy and spoken word and the event emceed by Ama K. Abebrese brought together some of the biggest acts in the Ghanaian music world.

It started off with comedy, and then two great poems delivered by the Spoken- word artiste Matombo Da Poet.

The first one about childhood memories indeed had me nostalgic; if you grew up in the era of boys flying kites high, ‘alikoto’, ‘maame and paapa’, and gutter to gutter sock balls, then you’d probably understand the connection.

Kaaki and Raquel were both good on stage in their own ways; one for her singing and the other more for her body moves which caught the guys screaming their heads off.

Gyedu Blay Ambolley, the ‘Radomzo’ man was at his best as usual and he thrilled the fans with his dance moves whilst singing a couple of new songs which are yet to be released and old popular ones as well. It was the infamous ‘Radomzo’ which got the fans fired up and they simply sang along.

If Ambolley fired up the crowd, then the duo (R2Bees) representing Tema electrified the venue and proved that R2bees is the new religion with very impressive following. It seemed like the crowd was just there for them and when they got on stage, it was Azonto fever, excitement and fun all rolled up in one. In my opinion, these guys simply stole the night.

I am looking forward to a new year filled with enormous display of great talents from our stars and of course money in our pockets to watch them live on stage and on screen.
