An inter-continental peace campaign musical concert dubbed ?Celebration Of Peace? and which will feature ten artiste groups for Africa and two from the Diaspora, is scheduled on November 4 and 6 at Kumasi and Accra respectively.
The concert, the first of its kind, aims at drumming home, especially to the youth, the new wind of change, blowing across Africa, to see the need for peace as a means of developing the continent.
It is an initiative of Crossborders International (CI), a limited liability company by guarantee, with the sole objective of using music and the arts to promote peace across the continent.
At a press conference in Accra recently, the Events Director of Crossborders International, Mr Anthony Kwame Akpo, noted that even though every effort being made by African leaders to raise its social-economic development, the formation of the African Union (AU) and the New Partnership For Africa?s Development (NEPAD), yet a major obstacle is the numerous wars and conflicts prevalent on the continent.
?Therefore, peace, stability and security are very much needed to advance socially, economically and politically, and it is against this backdrop that CI is introducing this peace musical concert.?
He added that his outfit had observed that the youth of this continent were not being encouraged to come together to undertake development projects. This, he said, made the youth to see the wealth and prosperity of other nations ?as theirs and a safe haven?.
Mr Akpo explained that since music was a powerful tool that cuts across all barriers, a musical concert would easily get the ?peace? message across to the majority of people.
He mentioned some of the activities lined up as separate courtesy calls on both the current and Ex-presidents of Ghana; Mr John A. Kuffour and Mr Jerry John Rawlings, respectively, clean-up exercise, youth forums and photo exhibition as well fun games.
He stated further that apart for the use of music and the arts, other social and humanitarian projects will be undertaken to demonstrate how prepared the youth are, to build their various nations.
Mr Akpo disclosed that the proceeds for the musical concert will be used to put up Information Communication Technology centers in each Africa country.
These centers will serve as coordinating points for the youth to learn and increase their knowledge on the prospects of the continent.
