Pensioner remanded for pouring acid on trader

Accra, Aug. 22, GNA - A 68 year-old frail Pensioner on Friday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court charged with causing harm by pouring a cupful of acid on his ex-wife.

Dandy Quartey, who looked weak and hobbled with his walking stick, pleaded not guilty.

Comfort Addey, a 40-year-old Trader, is said to have received serious injuries on her neck and the chest.

The Court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Ankamah remanded Quartey into prison custody to reappear on September 5.

Police Inspector Emmanuel Boison said Madam Addey, the complainant was the former wife of Quartey and they had a child.

The Prosecution said Madam Addey resides at Tema while the accused lived with their child at Achimota.

On August 19, this year, Madam Addey went to Quartey's house to hold discussion on their child's welfare.

The accused and Madam Addey could not end their discussion and he asked the complainant to spend the night in his house to enable him to think and conclude their discussion.

Prosecution said on August 20, this year, at about 0500 hours, the complainant approached the accused on his decision on their child but Quartey became angry.

The Prosecutor said the accused drew a cup containing some liquid believed to be acid and poured it on the complainant. The complainant sustained serious injuries on her neck and chest and lodged a complainant with the Police.
