The beautiful story of the Northern people and their rich ‘Fugu’ culture is brought to light in this edition of Ghanaweb’s ‘People and Places’.

The startlingly artistic cloth is derived from carefully woven yarns with different designs, each with its distinctive significance and implication.

The ‘Fugu’ could be likened to what Ashanti’s call the ‘Kente’. Made by the originators including the Dagombas, Gonjas, Waalas etc. the cloth and dress are now widely patronized by all tribes across the country.

It takes various forms; hand woven and sewn smocks shirts, trousers, and hats for men, dresses for women and children alike.

This piece gives details about the history, making, wearing and significance of these rich Ghanaian clothes from the 3 Northern Regions.
