Accra, July 26, GNA - The Old Accra Conservation Development Association (OACADA) on Tuesday organized a forum to educate the people of Accra, specifically Bukom, about Emancipation Day celebration. People drawn from Darkuman, Sakumono, Chorkor, Jamestown and Bukom, all in Accra clothed in black and red attires amidst drumming and dancing inspected the mounted exhibition about the slave trade.
Mr Stephen Asamoah Boateng, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City, said Ghanaians should learn from the celebration of Emancipation Day to improve on their lives.
He said people should build positive lifestyles to be free from mental slavery, which was one of the major problems Ghanaians faced currently.
"Emancipation will be worth celebrating if people understand what it is all about and learn from the past to improve upon the future," Mr Asamoah Boateng said.
He urged the people to treat those from the Diaspora and the Caribbean as their own, saying: "They are part of us".
On sanitation and health, the Deputy Minister advised the people to change their attitude towards their immediate environment. He announced the Ministry's intention to re-develop the area and urged the people to cooperate.
Mr Otu-Amate, a Retired Diplomat, who was the guest speaker advised young people to remain in the country and work hard to attract people from the Diaspora, as it would give meaning to the celebration of Emancipation Day.
