MTV Base Shuga, season three premiered recently with all the electrifying excitement of a world class drama series as ‘MTV Base’ and ‘MTV Staying Alive’ hosting some of Nigeria’s biggest heavy weights in different industries within the marketing, telecommunications, health and the entertainment industries and more.

The event which held at the Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island Lagos, had guests adorning exquisite ensembles walk the black carpet. Enthusiastic guests turned up in their numbers to show support to MTV Base and the cast of the award winning drama series.

The Shuga cast and crew also turned out in full force led by enigmatic director, Biyi Bandele. The exciting star casts include Ikubese Emmanuel Ifeanyichukwu, Okezie Morro, Chris Attoh, Timini Egbuson, Kachi Nnochiri, EFA Iwara, Olumide Oworu and Sani Mu’azu.

Newlywed songster, Tiwa Savage was also at the premiere along with other members of the cast, Dorcas Shola Fapson, Sharon Ezeamaka, Maria Okanrende, Owumi Ugbeye, Bikiya Graham-Douglas and KC Ejelonu who rivaled one another on the black carpet with their glamorous attires.

Speaking at the Shuga launch, Alex Okosi, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, Viacom International Media Network commented, “We are so proud of Biyi and our amazing ensemble cast who have done such a fabulous job in delivering this utterly compelling and thought- provoking drama that engages while also communicating important public health messages.”

Tiwa Savage said at the premiere, “I’m so excited to be a part of this project. Working on Shuga has enlightened all of us on a number of societal issues that need to be out there. This season, I am sure Shuga will go a very long way.”

Guests in attendance were treated to the first four episodes of the 8-part series. The screening took the guests on an emotional roller-coaster ride as it gave an insight into the lives and loves of characters Foye (a club and radio DJ), her music promoter boyfriend Ekene, their old friend Femi, club owner Sade and her rebellious son Weki, mercenary student Sophie and her precocious younger sister, Princess, medical student David and his studious room-mate Tobi, young couple, Nii and Malaika, and ruthless businessman Solomon and his sleazy associate, Osaro.

Notable faces at the event include founder, MTV Staying Alive Foundation, Georgia Arnold, Director General of NACA, Professor John Idaka, publisher ThisDay Newspapers, Nduka Obaigbena, Shuga season 3 writer, Kemi Adesoye, representatives of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Laurie Lee and Dr. Mairo Mandara, among others.

Other guests include Sound Sultan, Banky W, Iyanya, Chidinma, Basketmouth, Bovi, Damilola Adegbite, Praiz, OC Ukeje, Alex Ekubo, Uru Eke, Tee A, IK Osakioduwa, Wazobia FM’s Lolo and many others.

Shuga premieres to 52 territories in sub-Saharan African on MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) on World’s AIDS day, Sunday 1 December 2013 at 8PM.
