Firefighters responding to a call at the George Washington hotel which has a reputation for being haunted, incidentally happened upon an apparently blood-spattered room scattered with bottles of alcohol and 'a piece of a scalp with hair still attached'.
In the ensuing police investigation, one official labelled the room 'the most grisly murder scene' he'd witnessed in his 35 years in law enforcement.
Eight hours into their probe, investigators realised the 'blood' wasn't real and they weren't dealing with a crime scene but a set left over from New Terminal Hotel, a horror film starring the late Corey Haim.
According to the owner of the hotel, the set had been left untouched in case those in charge of the movie wanted to carry out re-shoots.Billed as an exploration of Hollywood's dark side, the flick was actually released in March and went straight to DVD.
Corey Haim of The Lost Boys fame died of a suspected accidental overdose in March aged 38.
