Information gleaned by Showghana.com say police invited debarred presidential aspirant of the musicians union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and popular musician, Gyedu Blay Ambulley along with ex-Osibisa member, Mctonto on Monday evening for questioning.
The police regional commander was said to be following up on allegations that Gyedu Blay Ambulley had plans to disrupt the forthcoming MUSIGA national congress due Wednesday November 14, 2007.
Sources say Ambulley has been asked to be careful about his utterances in order not to incriminate himself. He confirmed during a press conference on Tuesday at the Tiptoe in Circle, Accra that he had been served a writ by a fellow musician who says he must be stopped from going to the Brong Ahafo region for the national congress since he is not a union member of good standing.
The defiant Gyedu Blay Ambulley told the press that the fight is on and showed his first MUSIGA membership card obtained in 1975 as well as newspaper cuttings to evince the fact that he was qualified to stand as president of the union. Carlos Sakyi, a copyright advocate couldn’t understand why it’s being said that Ambulley didn’t serve four years as vice president of the union when it’s well known that the presidential tenure lasts four years.
Musicians like Rex Omar, Slim Buster, A-plus, jewel Ackah, Adane Best, Felix Bell and a member of the Tagoe Sisters attended the event. Chief Executive of Obibini Music, Faisel Helwani was also present. Defiant statements and strong criticism of the entire Musicians Union of Ghana marked the press conference.
The group presented a petition on the MUSIGA national congress to the minister for culture and chieftancy affairs after the conference. There were also calls to take over the MUSIGA office in Accra before the return of the union’s executives from Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region.
