Robert Senya, also called "Policeman," who claims to be a driver's mate, has been arraigned before Justice Carl Vincent Sunu's circuit tribunal in Kumasi on two counts of causing damage to property, contrary to Section 112 of Act 29/60 and for stealing which is also contrary to Section 124 (1) of Act 29/60.
Senya pleaded not guilty to both charges and he has since been remanded to reappear before the court on today.
The stolen items valued about ?80 million and a cash of ?3.8 million and one million CFA.
Chief Inspector John K. Afful, prosecuting, said on November 3, last year there was a fire outbreak at the Race Course in Kumasi.
The complainant, one Jonathan Hammond, who deals in electrical gadgets and hard wares in a container store at the said place was not present at the time of the fire outbreak.
According to the prosecutor, the accused took advantage of the situation, broke into the container store and started loading the items into a vehicle.
An eye-witness questioned him about his unlawful entry into the container, to which he answered that the owner of the container was his brother and that he was unloading the items to a safer place.
The eye-witness not convinced with the accused person's claims raised an alarm but before people arrived at the scene, the accused had sped off with the items.
The complainant reported the case to the police but the accused was never seen until May, this year when he was spotted selling the last of the item, a ghetto blaster.
The accused was then arrested together with the item by the police.
He was later granted bail but disappeared from Kumasi Senya was again arrested on June 24, this year at Kejetia in Kumasi and arraigned before the court.
