"Pressmen" scramble over rice

Accra, Sept. 3, GNA - Of late a lot has been said about charlatans invading the journalism profession. One can find them during press conferences and other official functions, even though they may not be invited by the organisers.

A classic case was played out on Thursday September 2, at the Accra International Press Centre where a group of rice importers held a press conference.

What transpired at the end of the event gave a clear indication that most of the so-called journalists came to that function not to do any genuine work, but rather to look for an opportunity to fill their bellies.

The activities of "fake Journalists" bring the name of the noble profession of journalism into disrepute.

It is high time the Ghana Journalists Association, and the National Media Commission took bold steps to put a stop to such shameful acts if the image of Journalists in Ghanaian society should be redeemed.

Weeding out the charlatans and instilling some discipline in the profession would also allow genuine Journalists to go about their normal duties without undue embarrassment.
