A logo is a symbol, a graphic mark or an emblem adopted by an organization to aid and promote public recognition. It may be abstract or ‘figurative design’ or include the text of the name it represents.
The African University College of Communications (AUCC) is a private institution at Adabraka, Accra Ghana which teaches journalism, communication studies, information technology, business, African studies, providing opportunities for advanced learning, and practical and professional training for the rapid growth and development of Africa. AUCC like many other institution adopted a logo, a seal, or a crest that is synonymous with its trademark or brand.
In this piece, the various components or symbols that comprise the AUCC logo are the Black stars, baobab tree, Adinkra symbols, circles, birds, rays, the motto, colours and texts.
Firstly, the ‘Baobab Tree’; symbolizes a source of strength, energy, vitality, and confidence. The Baobab tree signifies the production of continuous light.
Another element is the soaring ‘Birds’ and this is symbolic to freedom and perspective.
Also, the ‘Adinkra’ symbol expresses various themes that relate to the history, beliefs, and philosophy of Africa culture.
Another symbol which is ‘Circle’ the notion of totality, wholeness, ‘the Self’, original perspective.
African University College of Communications (AUCC) ‘Text’ which circles around the symbol denotes unity and totality.
The ‘Black Stars’ are intervolved with the name of the company. The black star symbolises African in general.
‘Discover Yourself From Here’ is texted out on a ribbon as AUCC’s ‘Motto’, this expresses guiding principle.
After critical analyses of all the elements that make up the AUCC’s logo, I can unequivocally conclude it is an effective logo. It has the ideogram and the company's name to emphasise the name over the graphic, and employs a unique design via the use of letters, colours and additional graphic elements which collectively imply that African University College of Communications is a higher educational institution that will provide the knowledge one needs to acquire to elevate oneself now and in the future under a conducive environment.
