Printer remanded in custody for attempted murder

Kuntanase (Ash), Aug 23, GNA- Yaw Owusu, a printer, was on Friday remanded in prison custody by the Kuntanase Magistrate court for attempting to murder his wife.

His plea was not taken and he will re-appear on August 28. Police Chief Inspector Nana Sarpong told the court presided over by Mr Agyei Frimpong that Madam Afua Nkansah, who had three children with the accused, moved from her matrimonial home to her family house at Feyiase due to regular intimidation and assault by the accused. He said at about 11.30 pm on Wednesday, Owusu went to his wife's family house, forced her door open, beat her and pulled out a knife to stab her.

Police Chief Inspector Sarpong said the woman's brother, Kwame Poku, who was also sleeping in the same room, managed to collect the knife from the accused.

He said the accused then pounced on Poku and beat him up until he raised an alarm for the accused to be arrested. Chief Inspector Sarpong said at about 12 midnight the accused broke the cell door but the police managed to overpower him and sent him back to cell. 23 Aug. 03
