*The story behind his signature sound *
Jay said he had been in the game for a while and people did not recognize his work so he decided to come out with something unique. Then he unleashed Jamma beats and initially got criticized. In an effort to stick to his unique style and overcome his critics, he decided to add a signature sound. He had at first thought about using the sound of thunder but he changed his mind and decided to use the sound of a broken bottle. The reason behind the concept, when a glass or a bottle drops, it draws attention hence his signature "Jay Q and the broken bottle sound". Surely his fans worldwide have become familiar with his unique signature beats.
On how he defines success, Jay Q said it is when one holds on to a dream and in the course of it, did not get any help but perseveres to achieve that dream on his/her own. That is his definition of success and he offered an encouraging advice to young and upcoming artistes not to see Hiplife as only a money-making venture but should take their education seriously. They need education for their music and not music for their education he says. No doubt, knowledge is power.
