Pupil teacher in court for abduction

Accra, Jan 27, GNA - George Owens, a 20-year-old Pupil teacher on Tuesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court on two charges of abducting a 14 year-old girl and for indecent assault. Owens who lives at Ablekuma pleaded not guilty and was granted a 30 million cedis bail. Mrs Elizabeth Ankumah the presiding judge asked the accused to re-appear before the court on February 17, this year.

According to Police Inspector Mary Agbozo the victim a 14-year-old JSS Pupil who also lived at Ablekuma went to the house of the accused to fetch water on January 3, at about 1:00 pm this year

She said the accused called the victim into an his aunt's room and tried to have sex with her but when she resisted the accused inserted the finger into her vagina.

The Police added that the accused locked the victim in the room and went out leaving the parents of the victim to search for her for a long time but only found the plastic container, which the victim was to fetch the water with.

Inspector Agbozo told the court that the accused who returned home at 7:00pm, let the victim out and gave her 10,000 cedis and advised her to go and sleep with a friend.

She said the victim before leaving the room took two female vests, one under pant, necklace and a wristwatch to serve as evidence. Out of fear the victim went to sleep with a friend at Gbawe and on January 4, a witness in the case spotted and brought her home when she let the cat out of the bag.

She said the police was informed and a medical report was issued for the victim to be examined at the hospital after which the accused was arrested and on interrogation he denied the offence.
