Kabuki Akiwomi
Multitalented Ghanaian actress, Kabuki Akiwomi who featured in 2016 Hollywood movie, The Last Face has expressed clearly one of the many challenges facing the Ghanaian movie industry. Speaking to Zionfelix.com in an exclusive interview, she mentioned lack of investment as problem which is hindering the industry from growing.
According to her, less movies are being produced in the country because producers lack the needed finance. The former Live FM presenter disclosed that the entertainment industry yields a lot of money but companies fail to see the benefit they will reap from the movie industry.
” There are a lot people will benefit from the entertainment industry but there are not a lot of money being put into it. We like to see movies but we are not ready to invest in them”
She added that “you have to struggle to make a name before some companies open their doors for you.” The mother of one named founder and CEO of Sparrow Productions, Shirley Frimpong-Manso as a person who gets help easily because “she has made a certain name for herself and they know she will deliver when they push money into her works”
“People don’t invest in the young talent that is coming up. Lets not forget the younger people are the ones who have fresher ideas but they always want you to make it before they start giving you the support”
Kabuki Akiwomi after featuring in Sean Penn directed movie, The Last Face with Hollywood stars like Charlize Theron, Javier Bardem, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Jean Reno and many others gained another major role in Shirley Frimpong Manso’s series, Shampaign.
Kabuki Akiwomi has been nominated for the Golden Actress ( TV Series) and Golden Most Promising categories at the 2016 Golden Movie Awards Africa with her role in Shampaign.
