Quitting Adom FM was a very difficult decision – Abeiku Santana

Radio personality, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, popularly known as Abeiku Santana has stated that quitting Adom FM did not come with ease.

Santana, who is now with Okay FM said he wanted to do something different from what he was doing but could not have handed his resignation letter to the Chief Executive Officer of Multimedia, operators of Adom FM.

“It was a difficult decision so I couldn’t hand over my resignation letter. I had to give it to the late Fennec Okyere at the airport and just embark on a journey to China because I know Kwesi Twum knows where I live in America and I know he can get me when I go to the UK. The best place I could hide was in China,” he said on Joy FM’s Cosmopolitan Mix, Friday.

“In fact, even when I came back, I had to lodge in a hotel for about two weeks and change my number. It was a difficult decision because Kwesi Twum and I are very close. I was his good friend and one of his favourite workers so I couldn’t have looked into his eyes and told him, ‘Boss, I’m sorry I can’t work with you’ when we had no problem,” the Ghana Tourism Ambassador said.

Abeiku Santana emphatically stated that he was not poached by Despite Group of Companies to work with Okay FM. According to him, he rather called General Manager, Fadda Dickson that he wanted to work with the company.

“The decision of moving on came from the fact that I thought that I had reached my peak at Adom. It got to a point that my content was changing. I was talking on more social issues than entertainment and sometimes, I got political. My programmes manager asked that I focus on entertainment and you can’t put creative people in a straight jacket; I always want to reinvent myself. I knew I wouldn’t be given that opportunity because there are strict policies at Multimedia so I had to move on. I called Fadda Dickson that I wanted to work with him. I wasn’t poached. I went there on my own accord,” he noted.

Santana worked with Radio Z FM now Eastern FM in Koforidua (1997-1999), Radio Mercury (1999-2001) before joining Ash FM in Kumasi. He returned from Europe in 2002 and joined Adom FM. He has been with Okay FM for six years
