The Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre was the place to be yesterday, Friday 21st September, 2012, as the organizers, Empire Entertainment, in their usual fashion drew Ghanaians to come out and have fun, sing along and dance to their favorite tunes that made wave way back in the late 90s and early 2000.
The night had a long list of ‘old soldiers’ rock the stage with their hops, bounces and swags; the roll call were T-Blaze, Ded Buddy, TH4Kwages, Abrewa Nana, Joe Fraizer, NFL, Akatakyie, Keteke, Ex-Doe, Chicago, Slim Buster, Kontihene, Sonny Achiba, Lord Kenya, Obrafour, VIP, et al.
Back in the Day concert, being the maiden event from this cupboard lived up to its expectation from the delivery of tunes as the audience had nothing to leave back as they sang to every old tune that kept them awake those days. And to say the least, the boombox styled stage was just brilliant.
The host, Pastor Azigizah Junior, did justice bringing back some familiar dance steps to the minds of those who at least were born then. Not only was it about celebrating artistes who had made hits back in the day, but accomplished Producers like Zapp Mallet and Hammer were also honoured with special Lifetime Achievement Awards for their contribution to Hiplife over the years.
As usual, every event has its high and low points, as a promise, readers can keep their fingers crossed as more is to follow here in dissecting and caressing what turned out to be a platform where ‘gods of men’ turned ‘men of God’ like the likes of Pastor Lord Kenya staged drama in bid to express themselves, to the point of unification, the tears, the laughter, and forgetting of lines in popular gigs, etc.
Though the night was almost marred by the low turn-out of audiences. But whatever was the case, as the saying goes, “there’s always room for improvement”.
