Accra, Sept. 28, GNA - Radio Univers, a community based FM Station on the campus of the University of Ghana, Legon, has been rated best in presentation and review of books by radio stations in the West Africa Sub-Region.

The rating was done at a workshop held in Dakar under the theme: "Promotion du Livre et de la Lecture Par la Radio" (using radio to promote books).

Radio stations from Benin, The Gambia, Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Niger and Ghana participated.

The workshop was aimed at upgrading the capacity of broadcast journalists in the production of magazine programmes, communication skills, studio culture and practices, psychology of radio presentation, voice manipulation and projection among other things.

The workshop was organised by "Onda Tiers Monde" under it s "Promo Livre Project", with support from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Embassy in Dakar and was climaxed with a country presentation at the Sheik Anta Diop University in Dakar. The Station Manager of Radio Univers, Mr Abubakari Ahmed told the Ghana News Agency that the station came up at the top because its presenters did not exhibit any studio fright and had control over the programme they presented.

Miss Pearl Asiedua Ofori, one of the Newscasters of Radio Univers, who represented station, said the weeklong activity took participants through principles of radio programming, radio ethics, programme evaluation, news reporting and presentation. The other Newscaster was Ms Farida Rassaq Khailan.

The Co-ordinator of the Project "Promo Livre", Mr Rapheal Ndiaye urged the participants to work harder to contribute to the human resource development of Africa. 28 Sept. 05
