Takoradi, Aug 8, GNA - Mr Victor Markin, a veteran journalist, on Tuesday called on management of radio stations to continually train their staff on the emerging dynamics of radio and how to blend them with national development agenda.
He made the call at the launch of Western Radio ICON Competition at Takoradi.
Media Maywest is organising the competition in collaboration with Melody FM, a radio station in Takoradi. Mr Markin said radio was a powerful tool for development and should be used to further national development goals. He said since the early sixties, radio had greatly transformed the lives of the people in the country.
He said the liberalization of the airways had also given access to many people to contribute to programmes through telephone, short messaging service (SMS) and other modern communication methods. Pastor Pius Ampem, Chief Executive Officer of Media Maywest, said the competition was aimed at unearthing the talents of amateur radio presenters and to encourage them to get further training to enable them work in the media.
He said the two month long contest would focus on music and news presentations.
