Pastor Nana Yaw Boakye - MOG
Ghanaian contemporary gospel singer and songwriter, Pastor Nana Yaw Boakye, has refuted claims rap music is evil calling on all not to shun gospel artistes who use that genre of music.
The artiste who recently rebranded to MOG, said contrary to how people perceive rap music, it is one of the ways which musicians express themselves.
“This can be done in so many ways, so if one decides to convey the message using the rap formula to express ones thoughts, emotions and vision, I don’t think it is evil,” he added.
Explaining further, MOG who is set to release his first rap single indicated that rap music is a strong section of music that can get listeners to act according to what the music says even outside the secular world.
“In short, gospel rap has specifics unlike secular rap music and what differentiates the two is the content. Content defines a song; if it is secular or gospel.”
The message in the song goes a long way to inform what caliber of rap music it is. The gospel rapper will use the opportunity to preach the gospel through his or her music while the secular rapper concentrates on what happens in the world, women or politics, etc,” he said.
Touching on why he decided to add rap music to his worship, MOG said, “I was a rapper before I became a singer which led me into spirit filled worship.”
“So doing rap is like going back to my roots but this time, for a greater purpose. There are a lot of things I seek to achieve but the basic one is to win souls for Christ.”
“I want Christians who love rap music to have something to fall on any time they want good rap music to listen to.”
M.O.G is a minister of worship and praise; a true psalmist who is well-known to be the minister whose voice and image embodies the presence of the Lord.
He released a number of worship songs before the debut of his album, ‘New Wine.’
MOG is one of the most gifted and versatile young contemporary gospel artistes making waves on the Ghanaian gospel scene. He was a member of Cwesi Oteng’s music team (Flo’Riva Inc.,) and iconic contemporary Ghanaian gospel choir, Harbour City Mass Choir, hitherto being ordained as a music pastor at the Royalhouse Chapel International Church in 2012 where he is currently the director of music.
