Regions showcase culture at festival

Wa, Nov 25, GNA- Ashanti and Upper West regions on Friday took turns at the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFAC ) at Wa to complete the show casing of the nation's rich and diverse culture by artists from all the ten regions of the country. The cultural differences of the country was not only exhibited through singing, drumming and dancing but also from the costumes worn by the various artists and clothes by traditional rulers who attended the festival.

Despite the differences in the culture of the various ethnic groups that make up Ghana, the varied culture is seen as a factor that unites Ghanaians together.

The paramount chief of the Tepa traditional area, Nana Edusei Ampem represented the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu. He stressed the urgent need to preserve the nation's culture which was being threatened by foreign influences as this was an embodiment of the nation's unity.

Nana Edusei Ampem suggested to the government to consider providing financial support from the common fund to the traditional authorities and traditional councils for the promotion of culture related activities.

In a speech read for him the Ashanti Regional Minister Mr. E.A Owusu- Ansah said, culture is a powerful tool that could be used to open the door to social, religious, economic and technological advancement. He cited Japan, India and china as some of the countries that depended on their cultures to achieve accelerated economic growth. Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister invited investors in the cultural and tourism sub-sectors to take advantage of the region's numerous potentials by investing in the region. 25 NOV. 06
