Every relationship is different but there are some things you just don’t do in a grown-up relationship. Acting mature means that you understand that there are obligations, and compromises are necessary when you want to have a loving bond with your partner.

Every relationship is different and comes with its own unique struggles. A healthy, fulfilling relationship can only be achieved by making smart choices. Make a conscious decision to become a better partner who is one hundred and ten percent committed to the relationship.

To keep a relationship going, there are certain things that you need to avoid doing in order to ensure that you maintain a happy relationship.

Resenting other relationships

It’s important that each party in the relationship remains an independent individual. Allow your other half the occasional boys’ night. If he is close to his parents, instead of resenting the relationship, why not embrace this? He will probably love you even more for it!

Quitting your job

Never give up your financial independence just because your partner earns enough to take care of you. When you start asking your partner for every single thing you need, it means you have completely given up your independence.

Keeping score

Making a mental list of everything that your partner has done wrong – and bringing this up every time you have an argument, is a huge no-no. One fight will just result in another fight benefiting neither party. Stick to the point and let go of the past.

Place your happiness in the hands of others

Don’t rely on anyone to make you happy – create your own. It’s a daily decision that you need to make for yourself. Yes, your partner needs to be there for you and makes you feel loved and taken care of, but your partner should not be the main source of your happiness.

Write off your family and friends

Just because you are in a committed relationship doesn’t mean you should forget about your friends and family, and if he is expecting this from you, run as fast as you can! These people were in your life before he was there, and will be long after he is gone.

Oversharing on social media

Advertising every aspect of your relationship on social media is not only childish, but can be very harmful to a relationship.

Change who you are

Committing to a relationship, and a person in particular, means that you accept them fully – and so it should be. Everyone has flaws and you should be accepted just as you are, do not change yourself into the person he expects you to be.

Become clingy

You are a person in your own right, and you won’t die without your partner. Mutual love and respect is essential to a happy relationship – there’s nothing to scare a man away more than a clingy, obsessive woman. If you feel insecure maybe it’s time to move on.
