Rex Omar, the chairman of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), has criticized the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for the sources of funding for his campaign.

Omar questioned the origins of Dr. Bawumia's campaign funds, pointing out that his wealth was not evident before he became the running mate to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The GHAMRO chairman alleged that the vice president used funds acquired through questionable means within the government to finance his campaign.

During a discussion with Johnny Hughes on 3FM, Omar claimed that the Bank of Ghana (BoG) has been printing and distributing money to officials for campaign purposes.

"I don't need his [Dr. Bawumia's] money because most of what he's distributing is stolen. How many people knew Bawumia was a millionaire before his vice presidency? What was his salary as the well-paid deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana? Let's compare that to the money he's now spending.

"Surprised by the cedi's devaluation? In 2022, the Bank of Ghana lost 60.5 billion. In 2023, they've lost over ten billion. They're simply printing and sharing money. They convert it to foreign currency. Some stash it at home, under beds, and so on. Cecilia Dapaah is a prime example," he stated.

Rex Omar is a known supporter of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and has often campaigned for the party's flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
