Rodney King, condemns violent lyrics in Ghana dancehall

CEO of Asasease Records, Rodney King, has come out to lash at musicians who use violent and abusive diction in their music.

He was referring to basically dancehall artistes in Ghana, but he’s refused to mention any name specifically. His comments came following recent back and forth social media and radio backlash by dancehall acts in the past weeks.

His wife, Beth Cudjoe, who is CEO of Global Harmony, an NGO that caters for women and children and spoke on the topic and condemned such behaviour by the artistes. Attached is a voice note from both.

“Music is about communication and you as a musician you are supposed to educate the people. So if you’re sending the wrong signal out there you are misleading the people. If you are using abusive lyrics in your music it means you are abusing your fans. We at Global Harmony, we represent women and children, so when your lyrics are abusing these people we have to stand up and speak against it. Musicians are supposed to be icons, shepherds and if you’re leading the flock astray, Caine women and children all sort of names, it’s not good,” Rodney intimated.
