"Ghanaian comedians are not funny" may still be the anthem of people who are not tickled by jokes shared by local stand-up comedians at events, hence will not bother attending one to see if there's a change in narrative years after forming the notion; but for the thousands who thronged National Theatre, Monday, to witness Romanus Incomplete 2, it was an optimal decision having had a blissful night.

With an auditorium full to capacity, Foster Romanus, the headline act, entered in an epic downswing from the roof of the stage; nothing short of an act by a mysterious Indian rope magician.

Costumed in a white pair of sneakers and a taekwondo dress which signified his readiness to combat any challenge which may have swamped patrons and denied them the happiness they deserve in the year, Romanus dazzled the crowd one joke and everyone after.

His catalogue cut across politics, the state of the economy, showbiz, ethnicity, relationship and sex. But even before he unleashed his witty jokes, Romanus exhibited his artistic dexterity with a jolly praise session which hooked the crowd to tag along in gratitude to the Almighty for the life and grace bestowed on them.

Like John the Baptist in the first coming of Jesus, a list of local stand-up comedians took turns to thrill the crowd with their hilarious numbers just before Romanus mounted the stage. From the Nyansapo squad to OB Amponsah, Nino, MJ the Comedian, Jacinta and then Clemento Suarez, it was a ceaseless parade of rib cracking and knee-slapping performances.
