Accra, April 12, 2010 - Shirley Frimpong Manso’s latest movie, “CHECKMATE” keeps attracting large numbers to the cinemas after the grand premiere about a week ago. Several movie lovers queued up for tickets at the Silverbird cinemas over the Easter holidays and even after the holiday season, the movie continues to attract huge numbers at Silverbird.

Competing with international blockbusters like “Clash of the Titans”, Sparrow Productions’ latest movie, with the impressive number it continues to pull at Silverbird cinemas is set to break box office in the sub-region.

Management of Silverbird say like always, they are happy to work with Shirley because of Sparrow Productions’ commitment to quality.

“We have plans of taking “CHECKMATE” to Kenya and Nigeria just as we did for the Perfect Picture. We encourage other local producers to tow the line of Shirley to ensure quality. Silverbird has had to reject many locally produced movies because of low standards. Good movies such as “CHECKMATE” go a long way to promote the local industry and that is what Silverbird is here to encourage” said General Manager Albert Mensah.

“CHECKMATE” continues to show at Silverbird for the next couple of weeks. “We have had to extend the showing period because of the huge demand for the movie. We are dedicating more of our cinema halls to the movie to accommodate everyone” Albert Mensah assured.
