The blast occurred a few minutes after five suspected drug barons had been brought into the courtroom under heavy security. Lawyers and the packed court gazed at the fan whose blades swung for a few minutes and halted.

Some members of the audience, who were seated, bowed down as if to dodge while others asked: "What is the matter? Are we safe? A writing on the ceiling fan indicated that it was fixed in 1997.
