Lovers of African music and art thronged the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park in Accra over the weekend for ACCRA [dot] ALT’s Sabolai Radio Music Festival formerly christened Ind!e Fuse.

The annual festival which started in 2010 with a few dozen participants has won the hearts of many more, compelling the move of venue from Alliance Francaise to the ailing but spacious Efua Sutherland Children’s Park.

The two-day festival which took place on December 20 and 21, 2014, included art exhibitions, food and product sales among others aside the main concert which featured King Ayisoba and mostly new acts on the first day.

The second day which was Sunday featured artistes like Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Knii Lante, Wanlov and Kiara from Burkina Faso among others.

In an interview with GhanaWeb, Percy Osei-Appiah aka Mutombo Da Poet, spoken word artiste and a member of the team of organisers of the festival said it took them a year to put together Sabolai Radio with little sponsorship.

“We had very little sponsorship so ACCRA [dot] ALT did this by herself which is very commendable. We used social media and some radio and TV interviews to reach out to the people and we were overwhelmed by the crowd despite the change in venue,” Mutombo added.

Some of the music lovers at the concert relaxed comfortably in a picnic style on the grounds of the Children’s Park which has a few patches of brown grass while others stood to enjoy their favourite songs.

GhanaWeb caught up with some audience of the festival and they expressed joy and contentment with the organisation and quality of music and art served them.
