The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is set to commission the Salaga Slave Market and Wells in the Savannah Region as part of the 2024 Emancipation Day celebrations.

These events, organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MoTAC), will take place from Monday, July 22 to Thursday, August 1, 2024.

The 2024 event will be held under the theme, "Unity and Resilience; Building Stronger Communities for a Brighter Future," which aims to foster unity among the global African family.

As reported by graphic.com.gh, the commissioning ceremony will be led by the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mr. Andrew Egyapa Mercer, along with the Kpembe Wura, Babanye Ndefosu II, and the CEO of the GTA, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman.

The celebration will include various events, such as a durbar at Pikworo Slave Camp in the Upper East Region on July 23 to honor the resilience and shared heritage of ancestors.

An event to pay homage to Dr. Efua Sutherland's legacy will follow.

The newly restored Salaga Slave Market will also be unveiled during Emancipation 2024.

Additionally, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park on July 25.

A durbar of Chiefs will take place at Assin Praso on July 29, followed by a cultural heritage celebration at Elmina on July 30.

The events will conclude with a special night in Cape Coast on July 31, featuring a candlelight procession, a call to honor ancestors, and poetry performances.

The Emancipation Day Durbar will be held at Assin Manso on August 1, with wreath-laying to honor former enslaved Africans and a visit to the Donkor Nsuo, the River of Return.
