Sunyani July 4, GNA - The Sunyani Magistrate court, presided over by Mr Charles Adjei Wilson on Thursday remanded two salesmen of Kwartson Ghana Limited in Kumasi into prison custody for stealing 130 million cedis belonging to the company. Eric Antwi and Kofi Agyeman pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing and are to reappear on July 15.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alex Yartey Tawiah, prosecutor, said the accused, who collected monies from the company's debtors planned to steal some of the money but a witness in the case got wind of the plot. On June 30 this year, the accused bolted with money they had collected and on reaching a place near Terchire on the Kumasi-Sunyani trunk road, they stopped and shot into the car with a gun to indicate that armed robbers had attacked them.
ASP Tawiah said they then rushed to Duayaw Nkwanta police station and reported that they had been attacked. He said the police went to the scene to ascertain the truth of the matter but could not see any signs of struggle at the area so arrested the accused and after thorough investigations charged them with the offence.
In another development the Brong Ahafo police is investigating a case in which Madam Agnes Essel was alleged to have attempted to poison her husband, Mr Kwame Ohene-Essel, a Cape Coast circuit court judge. Inspector Christopher Tawiah, Regional Police Public Relations officer told Ghana News Agency that on June 28, this year, Mr Ohene-Essel and two other persons sent a bowl containing stew to the Sunyani District police station to lodge a complaint that his wife had served him with poisoned stew.
He said Mr Ohene-Essel allegedly told police that just as he was about to eat the food served him he suspected a foul play so he asked the wife to taste it before he ate. Inspector Tawiah said the wife ate some of the stew and after some few minutes she complained of a severe stomachache, adding that she thereafter started vomiting was rushed to the Sunyani government and was admitted. He said the bowl of stew had been kept at the police station whilst investigations were going on.
