It started as an award to celebrate Nigeria’s talented and promising music acts and to thrill its vast entertainment enthusiasts; but now, it has practically become a contemporary sub-culture with enormous respect and prestige both in Nigeria and across Africa.

Since taking its inception in 2006, ‘The Headies’ is ranked as the biggest music awards in Nigeria, and that’s a detail with its status growing from an ephemeral award ceremony to the norm.

Our own Sarkodie and D-Black have been nominated alongside Camp Mulla (Kenya), and Zahara (South Africa) in the African Artiste of the Year (Non Nigerian category). The songs ‘Azonto’ by Sarkodie and ‘Get on the dance floor’ by D-Black earned them the nominations.

Sarkodie, the Rapperholic lyricist, is a two times Ghana Artist of the Year and a BET Award winner.

D-Black is a multiple award winning African Hiphop Artist & Executive Producer with a current hit on the song ‘Vera’.

We wish them best of luck
