Ghanaian rap star Sarkodie has picked up the award for “Most Subscribed YouTube Channel in Ghana” at the YouTube Sub-Sahara Africa Creator Awards 2016.

The rapper currently boasts of some 59 million views and over 147 thousand loyal subscribers, and was selected based on his channel’s performance over the last six months.

Other winners include Diamond Platnumz, Kansiime Anne, NdaniTV, Mark Angel Comedy, IbakaTV/Nollywood.

Responding to the news, Sarkodie expressed his elation at the feat: “It’s awesome that so many fans and subscribers log on to my channel to see what we’re up to. I love having that connection with them”.

Recipient of several local and international awards including the prestigious BET Best International Act: Africa in 2012, Sarkodie has released Makye (2009), Rapperholic (2012), Sarkology (2014), Mary (2015), as well as the joint album TMG with producer Jayso in 2013. He is set to release his fifth album “The Highest” next year.

Sarkodie’s channel is managed by MiPROMO Company Limited, which is also responsible for the channels of other Ghanaian music stars as Shatta Wale, Pappy Kojo, Gifty Osei, Kwabena Kwabena, SP Kofi Sarpong, Guru Samini, Criss Waddle, Article Wan, and Joyce Blessing.
