UNICEF has a new Ambassador, and it's none other than Disney star Selena Gomez. Gomez hopes her star power will raise awareness to support UNICEF's mission to reduce preventable deaths among children.
“Every day 25,000 children die from preventable causes. I stand with UNICEF in the belief that we can change that number from 25,000 to zero,” Gomez said in a statement. "I know we can achieve this because every moment, UNICEF is on the ground providing children with the lifesaving assistance needed to ensure zero becomes a reality."
She will travel to Ghana this month where her rep says Gomez will "be looking at UNICEF child survival programs." According to her rep, part of Gomez's new role includes "educating, advocating, and fundraising.” Gomez will be the youngest Ambassador from the United States.
UNICEF has other notable names as Ambassadors, such as David Beckham, Mia Farrow, Clay Aiken, and Joel Madden.
