Ace musician Shaggy arrived in Ghana on Friday night for a two-day musical concert dubbed the Spacefon Music fiesta. He arrived with twenty-one other bands men who will be steering the live band musical concert both in the Accra sports stadium and the Accra International Conference centre.
Ministers of State, some members of parliament, business people and a cross section of the media attended a welcome dinner organised at the plush La Palm Beach Hotel for his official welcome.
Shaggy, spotting a yellow Jamaica national football team shirt in an exclusive interview with Joy99.7 FM said he was looking forward to a real thrilling show. He also gave Ghanaian audience an insight into what goes into his lyrics and pointed out his lyrics are informed sometimes by life experiences and imagination.
The Grammy-winning reggae/pop superstar has about ten albums to his credit and is well noted in the musical sorority for his great performance and exuberance on stage. His visit to Ghana is a follow up from earlier visits to South Africa and Uganda. Shaggy's international success began with the 1993 release of Pure Pleasure, his debut album.
It featured "Oh Carolina," which became one of the biggest hit singles in the U.K. pop history, and went on to top the charts in nine other countries. With this dominance in the international musical fraternity, Shaggy plans to pour out his best at both shows in Ghana. Ray Von, Brian Gold, Toni Gold, Rik Rok will support Shaggy’s performance in Ghana with some other Ghanaian musicians.
