Diminutive Ghanaian social media personality Shatta Bandle has rendered an apology to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Nigeria after he was spotted in a video spraying money at the funeral of the late Nigerian actor, Mr Ibu in Lagos, Nigeria.
Firdaus Iddrisu, also known as Shatta Bandle attended the funeral of John Okafor, known as Mr Ibu, which was held in his hometown of Amuri, Enugu State on Friday, June 28, 2024.
In videos trending on social media, Shatta Bandle was seen spraying cash while dancing at the event.
However, such acts have been frowned upon by the EFCC, who have deemed them as detrimental to the dignity and value of the Nigerian currency.
Individuals found guilty of spraying, dancing, or stepping on the naira or any note issued by the bank during social occasions will face punishments of fines, imprisonment, or both.
In a video shared on social media on July 3, 2024, Shatta Bandle apologized to Nigerians, particularly the EFCC for his conduct.
He said that his actions were unintentional and pleaded for forgiveness from the parties involved.
“I didnt come to Lagos to break any rules. Lagos is my next home. I'm sorry for coming to spray money, it was not my intention, I was spraying dollars and ran out of notes, that was why I sprayed Naira.
I'm sorry for my actions. I didn't mean to break any rule. I want you people to forgive me,” he said.
