The Ghana Music Rights Organization(GHAMRO) has promised to pay dancehall artist, Charles Nii Armah Mensah, aka Shatta Wale, all royalties owed him.

This comes a few days after Shatta Wale threatened to take them on for failing to pay him royalties due him.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, May 3, the ‘chop kiss’ hit singer threatened to go out of control if GHAMRO royalties due him are not paid.

He wrote: “GHAMRO are you ready to pay my royalties or you want me to go haywire!!”

Shatta Wale took to micro blogging site Twitter last year to unleash his dissatisfaction and what’s possibly hindering progress of the Ghanaian entertainment industry, especially the music industry. He questioned whether there are copyright laws here in Ghana and the fact that he’s not receiving royalties for his works.

The Spokesperson for GHAMRO, Prince Tsegah told Accra-based Citi FM that the musician is guaranteed of his royalties, as soon as they are able to settle issues about the mode of transfer for the royalties due him.

“Shatta Wale has received royalties once from GHAMRO. As far as our records are concerned, in 2015, when he was under BullHaus Entertainment, we paid some monies to a specific mobile number, that was given to us by his management. Looks like he hasn’t gotten it. And going forward in 2016, we didn’t give him royalties…but his royalties have been issued. It’s there. You know because we need a mode of transfer, which needs authority from the music group camp or the artist himself which we didn’t get. So his royalties are there.”
