Sheep thief flees from court

Ho, Feb. 19, GNA - A Ho circuit court was on Tuesday thrown into a state of wild disorder when a suspect standing trial for stealing a sheep worth sneaked out of the court room in a bid to escape. Mawuli Agorbu, a farmer at Takpa near Kpetoe, was captured by some staff of the Judiciary Service when trying to scale over the fence wall.

The panting Agorbu, who had pleaded guilty to stealing, told GNA while being taken back to the court that the decision to escape was to enable him attend to his 16-day-old baby.

"I am hungry and longing to see my baby," he said. The Court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Siameh deferred judgment to March 10.

Mr Emmanuel Okudzeto, Chief Inspector of Police, told the court that Agorbu on February 15, stole a sheep belonging to one Aku Dzanta at Dakpa and took it to Ziope some 15 minutes drive away to sell. He said Doh Amanda, a barkeeper who Agorbu attempted selling the sheep to, became suspicious and subjected Agorbu to some interrogation in the course of which he (Agorbu) fled.

Mr Okudzeto said Agorbu was however arrested by people around the bar and handed over to the Police.
