Shirley Fripong Manso: ‘I Don’t Believe In ‘Soft-porn’

Sensational Ghanaian film director Shirley Frimpong Manso has said that she does not believe in the existence of soft-porn movies, stating categorically that such movies belong to “a different industry.”

Shirley was in Lagos, during the week, where she previewed her latest movie “Adams Apples’ to the Nigerian press.

Reacting to questions from the entertainment journalists in respect of the massive acceptance of the “soft-porn movies” in Ghana, the award winning director declares; “Ï don’t believe in soft-porn. I think it belongs to a different industry.”

According to her, “the issue relating to sex in our movies stemmed from the fact that the movies are not done creatively. Otherwise I don’t think there is anything wrong with showing some emotions or affections in our movies if they are done creatively.”

Continuing, the director of many award winning movies including “The Perfect Picture” added, movie making is an art, and as long as you are into movie production, you should do it professionally.”

‘Adams Apples’ her latest work is a 10 chapter cinema movie series created and directed by Shirley Frimpong-Manso and produced by Ken Attoh.

The intriguing box office premiered in Ghana, few months back and will commence showing at Ozone Cinema his weekend. Starring Yvone Okoro, Jocelyn Dumas, Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku, and Anima Misa Amoah, Ajetey Anang, John Dumelo, KSM and many new exciting faces, “Adams Apples”is the seventh movie written and directed by renowned director.

Set in the hustle and bustle of the city of Accra and its suburbs with glimpses of the exciting metropolis of London, the movie follows the lives of the four “Adams” Ghanaian women: the widowed, ex-diplomat’s wife and her three daughters in their early and mid thirties.

They work through domestic struggles, family life and personal battles to achieve success and happiness in a fast changing, 21st century Ghana where love can elude the hopeless, romantic victory can scorn the hardworking and marriage can be an illusion.

The Adamses seek all these and more from life and each other, as tears, laughter, love and a strong need to succed drive thees women and the men in their lives to seek more from life and each other in this explosive maiden chapter of the movie.

Interestingly, Shirley hinted that each chapter of “Adams Apples’ will open at the cinema every month over a 12-month period. The first chapter began with a grand premiere on the 21st of April, at the National Theatre in Accra and subsequent chapters released consecutively at the Silverbird cinema till February 2012.

The producer disclosed, that she hopes to premiere the movie in London, on the 17th of this month, where they are going to conclude the shooting of chapter 9 and 10 of the blockbuster movie.
